Why this site exists
Travel gear is one of those categories where the marketing budget dwarfs the honesty. Backpacks are sold on lifestyle photos, capacities are quoted loosely, and “we tested twenty carry-ons” roundups rarely show a single measurement you could check. Passage & Pierexists to do the boring, honest version of that job: read what each bag actually is — capacity, weight, external dimensions — check it against the airlines’ own carry-on limits, and say which packs earn their place and which to skip.
Our whole editorial stance fits in one sentence: we tell you what we know, how we know it, and where we don’t know.When a budget brand won’t publish a bag’s weight or dimensions, we print “Not published” rather than guessing. When a cheaper bag does the same job as an expensive one, we say so, even though the expensive one would pay us more. And we have never invented a review, a rating, or a “we tested it” photo — there are none anywhere on this site.
Who writes it
Passage & Pier is written by Stephen V.. Stephen is an enthusiast who's genuinely into carry-on travel and the gear that makes it work — he reads the spec sheets, compiles the published dimensions, and does the carry-on fit math. No lab coat, and no claim to one: Passage & Pier doesn't run a test lab, and nothing here pretends we flew every bag around the world. What we do instead is check each pack's real numbers against the airlines' own limits, and show our work so you can check us.
That is a deliberate limit, and we’d rather be straight about it than borrow authority we haven’t earned. We don’t run a test lab and we haven’t flown every bag around the world, so we don’t claim hands-on durability results we can’t back up. What we do instead is spelled out in full on our how we choosepage: spec-by-spec comparison, carry-on fit math, every airline figure cited to the airline’s own page, and honest verdicts that commission can’t buy.
